Cheers to this Festive Holiday Treat!

Celebrate Dickens style with this delicious Smoking Bishop drink straight from the pages of A Christmas Carol. This will warm your insides, tickle your toes and fill your house with an intoxicating aroma of mulled wine and citrus.

The recipe I use is from the New York Times Cooking and here are the ingredients you will need:

6 oranges*

30 cloves

1/2 cup sugar

1 bottle of medium red wine

1 bottle of ruby port

cinnamon stick

5 cardamom pods (it will still be delicious without the pods)

sliced oranges for garnish

*The first batch disappeared very fast and I had to rustle up a new batch quickly. I used orange juice (about 1/2 cup per orange) and added everything together in one pot. It was still delicious.

Use a toothpick to create holes and stick the cloves in the oranges . Roast for an hour at 325 degrees.
After roasting, place in a large, glass bowl.
Then pour the bottle of red wine over the oranges and let steep for 12-24 hours (don’t pour in the port yet).
Juice the oranges and discard. Strain the citrus/wine mixture and add the bottle of port. Add cardamom pods and cinnamon stick. Gently heat until vapors rise (don’t boil) and enjoy!
